portraits, #2.

Friends. Family. Friends of family. Self, and I guess, a cafe waitress passing by a framed Marlon Brando.

Also one of these pictures is from 1996.

Guess which one. (In Homer Simpson whispering voice: It’s film.)

Portraits (Happy New Year, everyone!)

Happy New Year, friends.

Let’s hope it’s a good one, full of shiny new things, friends and family, and lots of good music and things to read.

I always like to start the new year with something new, so this year: portraits.

These are portraits of just a few of the wonderful people I spent time with in 2012.

More portraits to come

Happy 2013!

testing the Impossible!

I got a Polaroid Land SX-70 off eBay. Loaded up a pack of Impossible film and started testing it.

Looks like its light meter is a little off as all my shots came overexposed.

I tested using my usual models and following some advice from my resident photographer and the super nice people of Vintage Instant and somewhere between the first and eighth shot I found myself so fascinated by the camera that  I even went and read about its history. And watched old commercials of it.

But I guess my favorite moment was when after driving for two and a half hours I stood with sand beneath my toes and snapped the last of my first Impossible PX70 film shots. And this was the result.

Just like Laurence Olivier said: “And then, the Impossible happens.” I smiled all the way home.

after the storm…

We went to eat at this little restaurant by the beach. The rain started falling as soon as we sat down and continued all the way through lunch. But when we walked out to leave, the rain stopped and the sun peeked through the clouds. Making everything impossibly bright and contrasty.

We drove up the coast stopping to look at the waves along the way.

something new for a new year

I give you…
a film of a Mysterious Pier.

I actually made this film last month when I was playing with my new pinhole cap. It just took a while to figure out how to edit it… Not bad for first try ever, no?

Some previous unedited but very fun attempts san pinhole in reverse chronological order:

Fanfarlo. They’re [relatively] new and shiny and really good. I hope to see them again this year.

And of course The Flaming Lips. One of the best bands to see live, ever. (Happy birthday, Wayne! ♥)

Happy new year, readers and friends. May it be the best one yet.

xoxo

wanderlust

Travels with my family. New pinhole lens cap for my Lumix. Lots of food. What more can someone ask for in a holiday season? Oh yeah, sunshine.
